WomensMMA Welcomes Julie Dezellem
Hey guys! My name is Julie Dezellem and this is my first post on this site. A friend of mine asked me if I’d be willing to blog and share a little about my MMA experience so here I am! I am 21 years old and from the Yakima Valley in Washington State. I fight in amateur MMA for Yakima MMA under coach Rich Guerin.
I have had three MMA fights since May of this year and my record is 2-1. I have competed in lots of submission grappling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments including the World Championships and Pan-American Championships. I started Jiu Jitsu in 2008 and am currently a 4 stripe blue belt. I also did Karate as a kid (ages 9-15) and I got my black belt in Karate in 2008.
The martial arts world is very different as a woman, especially in MMA, and this blog is going to be a little about my journey through it. Despite the misconceptions that this is a manly sport and may be too rough for women, I am in love with what I do, I wouldn’t trade it for the world! I’ll write more later about what I went through before and after my first three fights.
Thanks so much for reading!!!
JULIE 🙂
