Cris Cyborg and Charmaine Tweet fight for Featherweight title at Invicta 11

Headlined by  Cris Cyborg and Charmaine Tweet, Invicta 11 takes place Friday, February 27, on Fight Pass. Cyborg hasn’t fought since July of 2013, when she stopped Marloes Coenen (22-6) via fourth round TKO at Invicta 6. Since then,  she’s been the subject of rumors about dropping to 135 and fighting Ronda Rousey (10-0). According to Invicta FC president Shannon Knapp, that fight is “closer than it has ever been.”

But before then, Cyborg will have to defend her title against Charmaine Tweet. In September, Tweet championed a futile campaign discouraging fellow fighters from fighting Fallon Fox (5-1). Tweet made her stance known through several social media posts, citing opinion and bias as the justification for perpetuating bigotry.

When Fallon responded by challenging her to a fight, Tweet posted again on Facebook, saying,

“Here is my official stance on the matter. I think that allowing her to fight women is wrong and the only way to stop what is going on is for all female fighters to refuse to fight her. So she can goad me all she wants, call me names, but the ‪#‎baitnottaken‬

“And I believe that a ‪#‎don‬‘tfightfallon movement should be started. Now, as those who follow me on social media know, I state my piece but frankly do not have time for the online back and forth bullshit. So this is all you will be hearing from me on this subject.”

After initiating the actual “online back and forth bullshit,” Tweet passed her movement to…whomever, and deleted posts and tweets about it. Tweet, whose professional record rests at a middling 60% win rate going into this title fight, has illustrious wins over Veronica Rothenhausler (1-1) and Anna Barone (2-4) most recently, preceded by a loss to Bellator fighter Julia Budd (7-2).
