Joanna Jędrzejczyk Out With Injured Thumb

Strawweight Champ Joanna Jędrzejczyk (10-0) outstruck Jessica Penne (12-3) 190-28 in their title fight Saturday night at UFC Berlin. Jędrzejczyk may have kept her belt, but she badly broke her right thumb in doing so.

As reported yesterday on The MMA Hour, Jedrzejczyk’s manager, Shu Hirata, informed Ariel Helwani Jędrzejczyk’s thumb was broken and may need surgery. Hirata gave no other information concerning how or when the injury happened, although it’s a good bet it was during one of those 190 strikes that hit Penne. It is believed Jędrzejczyk will be out until November or December.

Jędrzejczyk has fought three times since December 2014, so the layoff is deserved.
