Joanna Jedrzejczyk on UFC P4P Rankings
Until this week, The UFC’s P4P rankings only had one woman on them, Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey (12-0) in the number-four slot. Now, thanks to Anderson Silva’s PEDs suspension, Joanna Jedrzejczyk (10-0) has landed on the list at #15.
Jedrzejczyk’s absence was always a bit glaring, because she was the only UFC champion not on the P4P rankings. She is considered by many to be one of the best strikers in the UFC, without the “WMMA” qualifier so often tacked on.
Anderson Silva’s claim of fighting clean was proven to be false when he tested positive for PEDs after his fight with Nick Diaz at UFC 183. Diaz himself tested positive for marijuana after the same fight.
Silva lost his NAC hearing this week. Not surprisingly, his defense of a bad batch of Thai Viagra skewing his drug test didn’t sway the judges, and he’s been suspended from fighting until January 31, 2016, and will return as an unranked fighter. This ruling also throws him off the P4P rankings.
It’s UFC standard operating producer not to allow any fighter who has been suspended by either the UFC or any athletic commission for PED use to be ranked.
Jedrzejczyk was last seen in action in her title defense against Jessica Penne (12-3) at UFC Fight Night 69, where the champ gave Penne such a beating she severely broke her thumb, and is out of commission until the end of the year. MMA fans everywhere groaned at that, because they were salivating in anticipation for Jedrzejczyk’s next title defense against the winner of the Claudia Gadelha– Jessica Aguilar (19-5) fight at UFC 190. Gadelha (13-1) was victorious, but she also broke her hand, and won’t be cleared to fight until December or January at the earliest.
