UFC 184 gets Holly Holm vs Raquel Pennington
The UFC confirms that the bout between Raquel Pennington (5-4) and Holly Holm (7-0), is now scheduled for UFC 184 on February 28th in Los Angeles. The fight, which was originally set to take place at UFC 181, was canceled when Holm injured her neck in training in November. The former boxing world champion will be making her UFC debut against TUF alum Pennington. Pennington was last seen destroying Ashlee Evans-Smith, who was also making her Octagon debut, with a vicious bulldog choke.
Holm last fought at Legacy FC 30 in April, taking Legacy’s bantamweight title via TKO of Juliana Werner in round five. Given her boxing pedigree, hype has followed Holm, who signed with the UFC in July, for a long time. With her extensive striking expertise, many have cited her as the likely stiffest competition for Ronda Rousey. However, Holm has never faced anyone with anything approaching Rousey’s grappling skill set, and her proficiency there is unknown. Maybe UFC 184 will help illuminate the completeness of Holm’s game.
UFC 184 is headlined with Chris Weidman versus Vitor Belfort and Ronda Rousey finally facing Cat Zingano.
