UFC 186 Results: Davis Foils Kaufman’s Hat Trick

davisAlexis Davis (17-6) rebounded from her 16-second submission loss to Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey (11-0) by submitting opponent Sarah Kaufman (17-3) in the second round of their third bantamweight match-up, avenging two previous losses to her. That ending seemed in doubt in round one, as Kaufman pressured Davis with a barrage of strikes and knees that damaged Davis. Davis closed the distance during round two, and converted a takedown into an armbar, ending Kaufman’s shot at a hat trick against Davis.

Valerie Letourneau , Jessica Rakoczy,

What many thought would be a quick and lackluster fight between former bantamweights Valerie Letourneau (7-3) and Jessica Rakoczy (1-5-1) turned into an entertaining fight full of slick grappling by Letourneau, solid ground defense by Rakoczy, and lots of striking from both. Rakoczy also escaped a medical stoppage before round 3 due to a grotesquely swollen right eye. Letourneau took advantage of this during round 3, landing a significant number of kicks on Rakocyz’s blind side. Letourneau took the win by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28).

dalyAs expected, the Strawweight fight between TUF 20 teammates Aisling Daly (15-6) and Randa Markos (5-2) was the most dynamic and fun WMMA fight on the card. The fight was non-stop action with plenty of scrambling as each exchanged multiple submission attempts and escapes. Daly showed what a scrapper she is, but just couldn’t quite take the win, and Markos won by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28). Markos’ improvement since the TUF 20 Finale is remarkable, and she deserves to be a contender. Daly and Markos were robbed of a well-deserved Fight of the Night bonus.
