Ronda Rousey takes home ESPY awards for Best Fighter and Best Female Athlete
By Sydnie Jones
After being named the most dominant athlete in the world by Sports Illustrated and Business Insider, UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey (11-0) got two more superlatives under her belt when she won Best Female Athlete and Best Fighter at the ESPYS on Wednesday night. Her 14-second armbar of Cat Zingano (9-1) was nominated in the Best Play category, but it was awarded to Odell Beckham Jr for some non-MMA thing.
In the best fighter category, Rousey beat out Floyd Mayweather, Donald Cerrone, Terence Crawford, and Gennedy Golovkin. Rousey dropped some reality on Mayweather, a serial domestic abuser with multiple convictions, in a post-win interview:
The other nominess for Best Female Athlete were tennis legend Serena Williams, basketball player Breanna Stewart, and skier Lindsey Vonn.
Rousey next fights on August 1, when she defends her title for the fifth time at UFC 190 against Bethe Correia (9-0).
