Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holm moved to UFC 193 in Australia
By Sydnie Jones
Previously schedule for UFC 195 on January 2nd, Ronda Rousey’s (12-0) title defense against Holly Holm (9-0) will now take place on November 15th at UFC 193 in Melbourne, Australia. Originally headlined by Robbie Lawler versus Carlos Condit, an injury to Lawler’s thumb precipitated the change.
Rousey is coming off a 34-second KO win over Bethe Correia at UFC 190 on August 1st, a much-hyped bout saturated in animosity and rage. She has also ended several undefeated streaks, including those of Correia, Cat Zingano (9-1), and Sara McMann (8-3). Her fight at UFC 193 will be her third in 2015.
The bout with Holm was only recently announced, surprising many, so with this date change, Holm loses more than six weeks of preparation time. Holm has had only two fights in the UFC, taking decision wins over Raquel Pennington (5-5) and Marion Reneau (6-2), but comes to MMA as a world champion boxer. Despite this experience, Holm isn’t cocky:
“She’s got a well-rounded game. I’m not going in there thinking, ‘oh I only have to worry about, you know, grappling.’ I do know she has knockout power so I don’t feel like you guys are going to see what you’ve seen before with her. I fear everything about her. Standup, ground, clinch, all that. And I feel like that’s the way you need to be with any fighter.”
UFC 193 airs live on November 15th on PPV; time is yet to be determined.
