UFC Fairfax gets Carmouche vs. Murphy for April 4th card
Liz “Girlrilla” Carmouche (9-5) will face former Invicta Bantamweight champ Lauren Murphy (8-1) at the UFC Fight Night in Fairfax, Virginia on April 4th. Bout order is still to be determined, but the card is headlined by #1 Featherweight contender Chad “Money” Mendes and #3 seed Ricardo “The Bully” Lamas.
Carmouche last fought Miesha Tate (15-5) and lost by unanimous decision at UFC on Fox 11, Werdum vs. Browne in April. Despite a strong start from Carmouche, including six take downs in the first two rounds, Tate ultimately out-struck Carmouche when she rallied later in the fight. The judges scored the fight in Tate’s favor, 29-28 from all three.
Murphy made her debut in the Octagon against Olympic wrestler Sara McMann in mid-August at UFC Fight Night, Bader vs. St. Preux, losing via questionable split decision. While McMann got five of the nine takedowns she attempted to Murphy’s zero, Murphy drastically outstruck McMann. Even with 193 strikes to McMann’s 64, and 48 significant strikes to McMann’s 38, two of the judges weighed McMann’s relative inaction on top to Murphy’s flurry of strikes from the bottom as deserving of a win. Sarah Moras‘ unanimous decision win from the bottom only a month earlier against Alexis Dufresne, and Tony Ferguson‘s split decision win from the bottom against Danny Castillo at the end of August were both similar to the McMann/Murphy fight, except the judges awarded the more active fighter on the bottom the win.
There are multiple WMMA fights in upcoming UFC cards, including:
Miesha Tate vs. Sara McMann, UFC 183 on 1/31
Jessica Andrade vs. Marion Reneau, Fight Night Porto Alegre, Brazil on 2/22
…and several more. Check the fight calendar for further information.
