Will Chope was pulled from UFC Fight Night 38

Will “The Kill” Chope (19-6) was scheduled to fight Diego Brandao (18-9) on UFC Fight Night 38. Chope was pulled from the card and his contract with the UFC terminated when Jeremy Botter at Bleacher Report reported that Chope was discharged from the Air Force for bad conduct. Specifically, Chope had verbally threatened and/or physically assaulted his wife on more than one occasion, including threatening her with a knife in 2009. From the court record:

He grabbed her, slammed her head onto the floor, and hit her on top of her head with both the knife handle and his hand. When AW screamed for help, the appellant took her onto the ground, and used a “pillow or blanket” to silence her screams.

In an interview with Josh Hall at Undercard Superstar, Chope expresses confusion that convictions for violent domestic assaults could affect his professional life for years to come:

I had no idea past transgressions from 5 years ago before I was ever a fighter would affect me fighting in the UFC.

The UFC’s official statement read, in part:

The UFC does not condone behavior of this nature whatsoever and Chope has been released from his contract.

Although Chope was released, he was paid his show money.  Brandao was paid his win money, as well as his show money.
